Fire Prevention Bureau

Fire prevention is the cooperation between the owner(s) of a business in Powell and Liberty Township and the fire department prevention inspectors. The goal of the Fire Prevention Bureau is to "Educate the public on code requirements in the Liberty Twp. Fire Code and to enforce these Codes fairly."

Our Bureau has three full-time inspectors. The Fire Prevention Officer - Lt. Sally McCann-Mirise oversees the Bureau.  Plans review, code research, final life safety inspections, data entry and file maintenance are some of the many duties the Fire Prevention Officer conducts. The Fire Prevention Educator - Inspector Jack Allen -   conducts training and education programs for residents, business owners and their employees. The age groups covered are preschool to adult with various age specific programs that teach fire safety. The Fire Safety Inspector - Tom Saunders - inspects existing business's throughout the township.

All three of these inspectors are multiple trained in many other prevention responsibilities. They are Child Safety Seat Technicians, Fire Investigators, fire fighters and at a minimum, Emergency Medical Technicians.

The daily functions include: daily inspections, new construction inspections, plan reviews, meetings, education programs and overall assistance to the public.
